Primary School with Kindergarten, Rakovec nad Ondavou 2

WE ARE a “School Connected with Nature,” where we educate for real LIFE and the WORLD.

This is our vision within the implementation of the new curricular reform, which we began piloting in September 2025. We aim to:

  • Create a safe and stimulating environment for every student and creative teacher.
  • Foster students with kind hearts in their relationships with both people and nature.

In our students’ education, we strive to apply innovative methods such as peer-to-peer learning, inquiry-based learning, and experiential teaching. We also utilize educational methods that lead to the improvement of all literacies, critical thinking, and the shaping of personal attributes necessary for real-life application.

We organize themed days dedicated to environmental protection through experiential activities, aiming to build a positive relationship with nature and our local region.

We implement project-based learning focused on biodiversity and climate across all educational cycles with the goal of developing cross-curricular literacies—enabling students to find, process, and utilize necessary information in practical life:

  • 1st Cycle: Bees
  • 2nd Cycle: Plants
  • 3rd Cycle: Animals

Since 2011, we have been part of the Eco-Schools program (Zelená škola). We also prepare students for Biology Olympiads, in which we achieve nationwide success.

A month ago, we spent a week with our Spanish partners as part of our Erasmus+ accreditation project with an environmental theme called EUROWARRIORS – Climate Change. One of the activities was a field trip to the Tatras Biosphere Reserve – specifically to Hrebienok and the Cold Creek Waterfalls (Vodopády Studeného potoka). We frequently visit this area as part of our educational process for field trips and outdoor nature schools. During the summer, we organize a residential environmental camp in Tatranské Matliari, with planned hikes to Zelené pleso, the Botanical Garden, Hrebienok, and Popradské pleso.
