Visit from the Royal University of Bhutan in the Tatras

On November 18-20, 2024, the Tatra Biosphere Reserve was visited by distinguished guests from the Royal University of Bhutan, namely Mr. Dean for Student Affairs Ugyen Dorji from the College of Natural Sciences and Ms. Lecturer Sonam Choki Wangmo from Sherubtse College. Both are guests of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Studies of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Humanities of the University of Nitra, and came to Slovakia as part of the Erasmus Plus program. The High Tatras welcomed them with a lot of snow, but they nevertheless tried hiking around Štrbské pleso and Rainerova útulna. They were enchanted by the ice dome in Hrebienok. In the Museum of Tatra Nature TANAP, they met with an employee of the TANAP Administration, Ing. Slavomír Celer, PhD., also a member of the Slovak Commission for MAB UNESCO, who provided them with information about the nature and landscape of the biosphere reserve. We ended our visit to the Tatras in the village of Ždiar and in the Belianske Tatras. We also visited the foothill settlement of Vlkolínec, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, where they were particularly interested in the architecture, traditions, and way of life in the past.
